D&D 3E/3.5 Question about 3rd Edition (3E) spell Animal Growth

First Post
My question is if animal growth only applies to mundane animals such as a wolf or if it would also apply to a magical beast such as a copper dragon. I ask specifically because my copper dragon is coming up soon on the ability to cast level 5 sorcerer spells and im curious to see if he could cast it on himself. I'm guessing not but I figured id ask for some opinions one way or the other. Thanks in advance.

Animal Growth
Transmutation
Level: Drd 5, Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets: Up to one animal/two levels, no two of which can be more than 30
ft. apart
Duration: 1 minute/level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes
A number of animals grow to twice their normal size. This doubles each animal’s height, length, and width, increasing its weight by a factor of eight. This increase in size has a number of effects: Hit Dice: The creature’s HD double, doubling the creature’s base attack bonus and increasing its saves accordingly. Size: The creature’s size increases one step. This increase reduces its AC (according to the new size), reduces its attack bonus (according to the new size), affects its ability to grapple
(page 137), and so on. The creature gains an enlargement bonus to Strength and Constitution scores, and its damage with natural attacks increases. This spell does not affect Colossal creatures. For details on how the characteristics of an enlarged animal change, see the Monster
Manual. When the spell ends, the creature’s hit points return to normal, and all damage the creature has taken while enlarged is divided by 2.
The spell gives you no special means of command or influence over the enlarged animals.

It can only be cast on animals, and dire animals and dinosaurs (both of which are still animals). Sorry.

You could use Polymorph at a lower spell level to obtaiin a larger sized form, though.

I should look into that and increase my undestanding of how polymorph works. Yeah my copper dragon is currently Huge at 23HD and Mature Adult age so well see how it works out. Thanks for the advice
