No, it doesn't.

But why? on page 175 and 176 which talks about strength checks also talks about attack and damage.

Chapter 7: Using Ability Scores in the PHB clearly differentiates between attack rolls and ability checks under both Strength and Dexterity. Same with saving throws, so no.

On a consolation: it helps on shove and grapple maneuvers presented in PHB.
