question about multiple targets with Energy Missile

Any Wilder (blaster-build) worth his salt picks up Energy Missile at level 6 with Expanded Knowledge.

Further more, its such a good power, that any non-kineticist Psion would be tempted to pick it up at level 5 with Expanded Knowledge.

I cant speak to wilders.. never cared for em.

But spending a feat for Energy Missile? Id rather spend feats for metamagic, or item creation. Both get you farther.

Now, if I can spend a feat to get into the mage spell list... Evards, Tensers, Mordenkainers? Featworthy

To each his own. I sort of thought we were talking about blastermages.

Best blaster in the game is the Wilder (to the point of borken), and Energy missile is his bread'n'butter.

Or, you could just go for an uber crystal shard build to one shot anyone in the party each round. (err, twin 2 shot someone, but still)

Huh? How do you plan on one-shotting something with this power? Crystal Shard power doesn't look so powerful to me... You have to make a ranged touch attack with it, usually not that tough to make, but psion BAB sucks, plus w/o feats like Precise Shot it is easy to get penalities to ranged attacks. Maybe I am missing something (and yes, I see that it scales at 1d6 per power point expended, but so do hit points increase with level as well).

I have no idea how he did it, but a wilder NPC did just that. With crystal shard, schism, Twin Power, Wild SUrge, and something else, dunno what. Did 145 damage the first round, and 170 the next round, no crits. Both healers died, the actual Healer, and the newly-hired Cleric who didn't know about any non-PHB spells and couldn't Revivify the Healer. Said Cleric was also a new character that the NPC had no way of even knowing was part of the party, much less a secondary party healer.

Did I mention the +29 intiative modifier the wilder had? :\

Would it be less overpowered to make the psion pay points to up the damage and/or DC for each target?

I can hear the psions of the world groan now :p

That's how it works, actually, unless you have it as a psi-like ability. You pay to augment it.

EDIT: Misread your intent. You mean, to pay separately for each individual target? The only thing that would accomplish would be to push some would-be takers into taking something like energy stun instead. It wouldn't fundamentally make psions less powerful (with the possible exception of kineticists using the 1pp: +1DC augmentation rule.)
