Question about Turn Undead

Margaiaman

First Post
I am creating a Paladin 10/Cleric 1 for a game tonight.

I see how the Turn level is figured but I am curious about something else. Do the Turning attempts per day stack?

In other words, does the Paladin/Cleric channel positive energy:

3+Charisma Mod times per day
6+ Charaisma Mod times per day
or 6+ Double Charisma Mod times per day

Thanks in advance.

I belive that the character in question does not receive any additional turn attempts per day.

Basically the levels stack for the same ability just as they do for a familiar of a wizard/sorcerer.

You do not recieve any extra turning attempts unless your get your stats raised or take the 'extra turning' feat.

And your turning level would be as a cleric of 9th lvl.

Can you give me a rules reference where they say that turning from paladins and clerics stacks? Always thought that they're seperate, just like their spells

I've always thought it worked as Femerus the Gnecro stated, but I just looked throught the PHB, DMG and FAQ trying to find a specific reference to back up this assumption... and I found nothing. Which now leads me to believe that KaeYoss' interpretation may be technically correct.

BUT... :) .... the Prestige Classes in DotF that grant Turning do not specifically state that they stack with previously gained Cleric or Paladin Turning attempts; nonetheless, the Sage ruled thus in the FAQ:

The table for the hospitaler prestige class shows the ability to turn undead at 1st level. However, the class description has no mention of this ability. Does it stack with pre-existing turning ability, or is it a misprint and an ability not available to the class?

Hospitalers gain the ability to turn undead at 3rd level, not 1st level. The character turns undead at her hospitaler level, .2. This stacks with undead turning from other classes; add the character.s hospitaler level, .2, to the class level for any other class that has turning ability. For example a 6th-level cleric/4th-level hospitaler turns undead as an 8th-level character. Note that paladins also use their class level .2 to determine their undead turning level, so a 6th-level paladin/4th-level hospitaler turns undead as a 6th-level character.

I think I will continue to rule that Cleric and Paladin Turn attempts stack in power, not quantity.

Cheers,
