Question Concerning Armor's Max Dexterity Bonus

I'm sure this question has come up before, but I can't find it in any of the older threads, so I'm gonna give it another go.

Does the Maximum Dexterity Bonus of Armor apply also to the Dexterity Bonus applied to an attack roll if a PC has Weapon Finesse?

Thanks!

An armor's Max Dex Bonus only affect Dex bonus when applied to your AC. Period.

A shield's Armor Check Penalty will affect your attack roll if you're using Weapon Finesse.

I couldn't find where either 'Ranger REG' or 'Mouseferatu' found that info. As I understand it, if you have Dex 20 and a chain shirt, the most you can apply to your Dex to weapon finesse is +4, even though the Dex 20 is +5. Can anyone point me to other info?

Do you own a player's handbook? If so, just check out "Maximum Dexterity Bonus" under the armor section. I know its a very obscure place to look for this info, but it should be there. ;)

If you don't own one, here's the quote from the SRD: "This number is the maximum Dexterity bonus to AC that this type of armor allows. Heavier armors limit mobility, reducing the wearer’s ability to dodge blows. This restriction doesn’t affect any other Dexterity-related abilities"

Hope that helps.
