Question for my fellow slobs: Do you ever leave the house to prep for games?

As the title implies, this is directed to those among you who, like myself, suffer from untidy house syndrome (or, put differently, are slobs!). I'm not exagerating when I say there's not one clean flat surface in my home that's not covered in assorted detritus which I'm too lazy to put away... Besides, even if I do clear off a table it just gets filled up again in a matter of days, if not hours.

Have you ever actually gone and left your house, going somewhere else just to have a clean flat surface to do prep-work on? Right now I'm debating going to work early (I work at the college I attend) just so I can sit in a lab and get some stuff done for my game. In the past, I've used homework as an excuse to go out to eat (cashew chicken + abstract algebra FTW!).

I try to do as much prep work as I can on my computer, even going so far as downloading PDFs of books I own because there's nowhere for me to lay them out while I type (not to mention it's just easier to juggle a bunch of books in acrobat, especially when you've got two monitors), but eventually there's always some stuff that just needs to be done on a table by hand... y'know?

Not because I'm a slob but to get some quiet and have a little more room I will goto the local library and use a private room they have with a good sized table. It's very peaceful and I get a lot done that way.

Whenever my place gets like that I clean it.

I also clean and straighten before every game session (and after as well).

I know that my living conditions are deplorable, hence why I asked for opinions from others who live similarly cluttered lives. :)

I wish I could keep something clean... But it just ain't in me. Some people can't quit smoking, some people can't stick to a diet... I can't keep things from getting cluttered up.

You know, I thought about going to the library, but it seemed odd to me to bring my own books there... Then again, I've got some bizarre paranoias... Like being afraid of being accused of stealing if I go into a bookstore when I've got a couple D&D books in my bag already.

Never occurred to me to check if my library has private rooms... Do you need to make appointments to use them or is it first come, first serve?

I just cleaned my game room thoroughly for the first time in years. It was a little bit like archeology; "Hey, look! Notes from five years ago!"

The room now feels delightfully empty. I'm really enjoying it.
