Question: NPC and PC XP Worth?

Perhaps I'm missing something. The rules for quickly creating encounters with given monster are indeed quick and easy.

Much much XP are NPCs worth? Certainly it isn't equal to a monster of equivalent level, right? Seems the DMG leans that way.

5 PCs vs 5 NPCs with almost identical powers is going to be a knockdown drag-out fight, not a standard encounter. And a hard one at that...

Also, by the same token. How much would a full PC class be worth?

Is this spelled out anywhere. How do you determine rewards and difficultly for NPC and PC classes?

NPCs with class levels are created by taking a base critter/monster and applying a class template. This turns the critter into an Elite critter. Elite critters are worth 2x the XP as a non-elite.

So, if you created a human commoner "monster" of level 1 (worth 100 XP) and applied, say, the cleric Class Template, you'd have a Level 1 Cleric worth 200 XP.
