D&D 5E Give me ideas for a really simple boost to martial characters [2014]

Amp up your critical hits.

Instead of multiplying your damage dice, critical hits could cause your attack to automatically deal maximum damage x 2.

Martial make more attack rolls than casters, and some of them have expanded crit ranges, so they will benefit from this more than martials. It also effects both PC's and monsters in the same way.

here's one i've thought about - creatures with multiple attacks can dash, escape a grapple, or disengage in place of any number of attacks. so a level 11 fighter could disengage, dash, and make an attack all as an action using extra attack, for example.
Piggybacking on this a bit. The ability to make a save at the start of your turn instead of at the end when you are affected by a spell that grants a save each round. How many times would it be cool if the fighter could save vs hold person and get to do something instead of just roll a save at the end of his turn? I would limit it to 1 spell per rest or day though.

Harking back to 1e, you could give level 5 fighters a damage bonus equal to their fighter level against all creatures with a CR below 1 when they roll for damage. Make them minion killers.

In 1e that was one attack per level so they were minion horde killers.
