Question: Opinions of WOT readers on book 10

There are way too many books out there that I want to read that I can't see myself committing to a 10+ series of 500 page+ fantasy books of such varied quality.

Like a few others have said, I was a fanatic until book 10....

That was the most painful book in the series by far.

NOTHING HAPPENED! NOTHING! Every character except Eggy ended thier part of the book in almost the exact same situation they began in.

Seriously, this book could have been completely summed up with one paragraph. For those who haven't read it, just skip the book, read a summary, and go on to the next book. Really.... don't torture yourself.

Mat's parts where pretty good, and Perrin had a good chapter or two, but thats about it.

Where was Rand? He got what? 1 chapter? Maybe 2.

I have to agree, that was bad. Oh, and to bring it on topic, I thought 10 was bad because of so little, IMO, advancement of the characters. I thought 1-9 were good, and am going to get 11. If 11's as bad as 10 was, then I'll seriously consider dropping the series...but I'd had to do that investing so much time, money and energy in re/reading them already.

No, Path of Daggers was the most painful by far. Crossroads of Twilight was far too blah to be painful (except for the pain of paying full cover price, because I picked it up at a signing).

... which was the only positive point of CoT (well, that and Elaida recovering her backbone).

I cant say that I hate RJ's books, I despise the man. I used to ADORE the series. It was the first real fantasy series that I read. However, I now only read it because i have read the first 10, it would be stupid for me not to finish. I guess I want some thing out of all that time wasted. At least to know the end.

I expect him to write 13 books. This because 13 is a semi-important number to him in the book. However, he is now spouting off about writing some prequil

before finishing the real series and I find this insulting. I have a small feeling he cares not what his fans feel and wants whore himself out as much as he can to make some sort of legasey for himself. Or maybe he is just a greedy man. I mean I think his wife is still his editor, and that is obviosly not working. I think that happend about book 4-5 too! So of couse the edtiting sucks. When a book is written you need to have a non-objective 3rd party who can tell you what fat needs to be cut off.

Enough rant.

I will still read the books and get some enjoyment out of it. Yes you need to set up the plot and that is largely what the last book did! Now he needs to resolve alot of threads before we get to the last battle!

I think the books have taken a perceptable dive since his wife took over as his editor ca. book 6. IMO, that when they really started getting uneven. He clearly doesn't know what his readers care about, or give a damn if he does. We get major plot points in throwaway comments and hundreds of pages of arms crossed under breasts, braid pulling, sniffing, shawl-fringe groping, and the constant steady fall of previously distinct female personalities into one irritable collective with many bodies.

Also, I have hated Perrin since book four.

The latest really took the cake, though. I think they had one real major plot point in the whole mess. After the conclusion of the previous I really had hope. Sure the whole book only took place over a span of about ten days, but THINGS HAPPENED.

I saw book 10 in the bookshop just yesterday and thought to myself, ‘wow there are still people reading this’. I gave up after book 3, which from memory I only skimmed as I found it very dull.

You found it dull by book 3? May I ask why you thought this?

He is an author lost in his own world. It is no longer about the original story arc, but about each individual character. I think he fell in love with his characters and refuses to let it come to an end.

I want to know what he thinks about the Amazon reviews.
