Questions on D&D DI - Characters Stored Online & an Idea

Ok,

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, but I wanted to get my thoughts out, and well ENWorld has always been the place for me since long ago. (IE when it was Eric's Unofficial News site)

First, I have seen mention that their will be an online character generator and that we will be able to store characters online. The magic # I saw for characters was 10, with each version of a character counting as 1 of the 10. So if I have the same character saved at 1st, 3rd, & 6th levels that will be 3 of my spots. (please correct me if any of this is wrong or has changed)

My ? regarding this is, will their be any way to increase that number? For me I keep all my characters electronically (currently in custom Excel sheets) and like to have a copy at each level in case I need a character at a specific level at some point.

My Idea

It was also mentioned we would be able to print a character from our online storage, formated on a character sheet.

Would it possible to get some kind of stat block like out put as well that might be put in to something else to use dynamically when an internet connection is not available? IE I put the stat block in an excel sheet that then displays it in a format conducive to using on a laptop/tablet PC while sitting at the game table?

If any has any ideas to add to this or knows a better place to get the ?'s answered or in to wizards hands in a productive way, please speak up.

Thanks

JD

I don't have an answer (though I get the impression that the idea of a "max number" of characters might not be true any more).

But I had a related idea. What if you could have access not only to your characters -- but to all characters built in D&DI by other members (with their permission). Think about, as DM, having access to tons of pre-made PCs and NPCs that way. I think that would be pretty sweet.

Yeah, I think it would be pretty cool to know one of my PCs was showing up in other people's campaigns.

It would probably also be good to be able to export your character to some digital format that could be used offline.

That is the best idea I have come across since someone came up with beer and women.

I can't take credit for the beer, but you're welcome for the women. You're just lucky I invented them back in 1964 along side butter and prime rib.

Scott Rouse stated on the official forums that he wasn't aware of a limit.

I believe this is in. Subscribers will be able to set their campaign and PC details either public to just a select few (i.e. their group), or public globally (i.e. everyone).

I can't attribute this but the net sum of everything I've been reading has me arriving at that conclusion.

If nothing else, they should have a database of characters from levels 1-30, all classes, all races, ready to play for use in a last-minute one-shot. "Go grab four 10th level characters from D&DI and meet me at my house, stat!"

And has since corrected himself here.

I have expanded information now that I am back in the office

There will be slot limitation as we can't provide infinite space. We are still figuring out how many slot there will be for each account as it will depend a variety of factors including average file size. We don't want to have a situation where the limited slots number hurt usability but how many that is is still TBD.

as it''s on topic for this thread, the rest of that post:

So to clarify this point each subscriber to D&DI will be able to build characters using all the options published in the released books.

Unless they have the e-book they will not be able to get the expanded text/details (use the browse or print form) without the e-book, but will have the information on where these options were published. The e-book gives a D&DI user extra functionalities above the base functions in the character creator.
