Quick Gelatinous Cube question

Exactly!

So why are they so hard to see when all the pictures of them show bones, magic items and fleshy bits sticking out the side of them as they jiggle down the corridor? You'd think a seasoned adventurer would notice something like that. :/

And they would, no doubt, if they weren't the bones, magic items and fleshy bits sticking out the side of them.

For a change of pace, instead of it being "invisible," you can describe a gelatinous cube as a levitating skeleton slowly drifting toward the PCs (somewhat like Moxcamel mentioned above). The party fighter moves in to engage the undead fiend, and... gloop.

Oooh I really like this. Think I can get away with using a GC in Dark Sun?

Sagiro once put a gelatinous cube in a pit; the locals were using it as garbage disposal. My character slipped while trying to jump the pit. Then the party fighter also got paralyzed while trying to rescue me. That damn thing couldn't even attack, and it still almost managed to kill three of us.

This makes perfect sense: to most commoners, adventurers are "garbage." B-)

I'm totally going to steal this idea :)

I'd XP you for it, but I do that a lot, it seems.

Consider that totally stolen for my game sunday...:)

What if the PC's saw a chain mail bikini and sword floating toward them? Would they hesitate? :D

Back in 2nd edition our 8th lvl adventurers never ran from anything. But we opened a door and there was a wall of perfect darkness in front of us, a sphere of impenetrable shadow. It moved. The shadow lurched forward to engulf us, and one character felt something warm and slimy as he lost all feeling in his arm...

Screw that. We RAN.

And we had no idea whatsoever that it was nothing more than a gelatinous cube with a darkness spell cast on it.

I ran a game once where a couple of orc's came across a cube in a hallway. They were discussing what to do when the party approached from the other end of the hall. Seeing the orc's talking and pointing in there direction they rushed if for the attack.

I loved their faces when the first PC ran into the Cube.
