Druid.
Normally, they don't really come into their own until 5th level... but in a situation like this, they have one huge advantage: their animal companion. Get a wolf. At third level, it will have 4HD, AC 17, and a +5 melee (1d6 +2) bite attack with a free trip attempt. Not bad at all.
...and a 3rd level druid isn't a pushover himself.
