Quick multiclass question

I'm sure this has been asked, but I cant find it.

I have a 8th level Ranger that is going to multiclass as barbarian. When I rage do I gain 2 hp per barbarian level or total level? Will I get 2hp or 18(8 lvl rgr/1lvl brb)?

When you rage, you get a bonus to Con, which gives you more 2 extra hp for any hitdice you happen to have (including any class levels and racial hit dice, but not effective levels due to LA).

The reason you get the extra hit points is because your effective Con goes up, netting you more bonus hit points. Bonus hit points are based on your character's hit dice, so you'd gain 2 hp per hit die. Since your character is a Ranger 8/Barbarian 1, that's 9 hit dice and 18 bonus hit points.

Sounds right to me (just in case you needed a second opinion).

From the SRD
Rage (Ex)
: A barbarian can fly into a rage a certain number of times per day. In a rage, a barbarian temporarily gains a +4 bonus to Strength, a +4 bonus to Constitution, and a +2 morale bonus on Will saves, but he takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase in Constitution increases the barbarian’s hit points by 2 points per level, but these hit points go away at the end of the rage when his Constitution score drops back to normal.

The hitpoint increase comes from the constitution increase so you will gain 2 hitpoints per hit die - 16 hp from 8 levels of Ranger and 2 from 1 level of barbarian.
