Quick question on the Ninja

First Post
The Ninja's Ghost Step (gained at 2nd) ability makes himinvisible for one round, but doesn't actually reference the invisibility spell, leading me to believe that he remains invisible even if he attacks. Assuming this is true, it lasts until his next action.

The Ninja's Ki Dodge (gained at 6th) allows him to gain concealment 20% for one round.

Ki Dodge < Ghost Step. What's the deal?
Thanks

For clarity's sake, your reading of the Ghost Step ability is correct. He is invisible, the restrictions of the invisibility spell do not apply, and he remains invisible until just before his initiative on his next round.

IDHMBWM, but if the ability says "gains concealment with a 20% miss chance", then the ninja is now immune to Sneak Attack and similar abilities.

If, on the other hand, it's just a straight "20% miss chance as if he had concealment", then nevermind...

So although Ghost Step is indeed vulnerable to any method that causes Invisibility to be countered, it still seems superiour to Ki Dodge. Is this the consensus? As an aside, I don't necessarily think that it is _bad_ that the 2nd level ability is better than the 6th, I am just wondering how often the 6th level ability will be used.

How broken would it be to make it so that the Ki Dodge lasted for a minute rather than a round. Gaining concealment for a battle is pretty powerful and I can see that being chosen over Ghost Step for a single round.

Correct, but if you have See Invisibility, you can sneak attack as normal. It would not, however, allow you to sneak attack something that has concealment.

Only if things can't see them.

Whereby I mean that there is nothing inherently special about invisibility (as opposed to, say, darkness) that makes you immune to sneak attack, but rather, it is a kind of side effect of the enemy not being able to see you and direct a precise shot at you.

Isn't the point here that when he REALLY needs to do some sneaking about, he'll use invisibility, and when he just needs some defense (and to nullify sneak attack), he'll use Ki Dodge?

It seems to me that the utility of Ki Dodge is in not having to burn up your Ghost Step defensively.

Both Ghost Step and Ki Dodge pull from the same Ki power point pool, so that doesn't make sense.
