D&D 5E (2014) Quick way to fix class balance if you don't use the assumed adventuring day

Because output per encounter isn't the right metric. It's really output per adventuring day, or the same thing stated differently average output per action.

What I said still stands and it means one cannot balance short and long adventuring days simply by scaling short rest powers and other occurrences like crits by a set factor (kudos to you for trying to account for crits). Because short adventuring days feature harder encounter then caster resources become more efficient/stronger due to large aoes and control, things martials generally don’t get much of.

What you are suggesting is an improvement. I highly recommend it for anyone experiencing intra class balance issues due to adventure day length. Just know it won’t fully solve for the reason I mentioned above.

If it helps, the concept of nonlinear system should explain most of what I’m saying.

I think you're confusing me with another poster. I didn't talk about short rests nor crits.

Or use Hit Dice until they have a long, safe, comfortable rest. You can even give them the: "Every time you heal, you get the healing plus one of your hit dice." But you do not get your hit dice back until you are safe and relaxing for a few days.

I really wish the new DM's Guide had more alternatives like the ones listed in this thread. It would have really helped certain playstyles to have "official" guidelines.
