D&D 4E Quick way to master 4E: PvP, sorta

First Post
So I came up with a 2 player game for those who love tactical combat, min/maxing, or "roll playing".

2 players set a number of PC's and a level- for example, 5 PC's level 1. Then set an appropriate amount of gold. Rituals are banned.

They flip a coin: winner decides who is "PC" and who is "DM"

PC designs 5 characters of the appropriate level, has the fixed amount of gold to equip them.

DM designs encounters, all worth 500 XP (in the case of 5 1st level chars). May use traps. You can place additional constraints on DM. for example: must use different races in each encounter. Also, will likely need a rule such as: DM may not attack unconscious characters. This complicates things, such as AoE spells, but the heart of the rule is: the DM must play as if the enemies in the current encounter want to live; they dont care about the DM's goal of killing unconscious PC's before the next encounter.

Then the PC and DM play out the encounters, until the whole party is dead. Short rests only between encounters. The total XP the party gained is that player's "score".

Then you switch places between DM and PC and see who gets the highest score. The point isn't really winning, its a glorified game of DDM just for the joy of exploring this awesome new set of rules we have.

(shameless plug: im looking for a group/players in the DC metro area).
