Quickstart rules from D&DExp

Nice writeup, helium3. :) I'd like to see a story hour that had this kind of "Order of the Stick"-style, self-aware-that-the-characters-are-in-a-game humor.

But how does it help to keep the riff-raff out! A good (and thus valuable/desirable) role-player still understands the rules when he is drunk and it's 4 o'clock in the morning. And the rule-book is not in his native language.
AND WE LIKE IT!

And to be more constructive: I'm studying right now. Physics. While it's fun, textbooks are somewhat boring. Give me informal idiot-speak over essay-speak anytime.

And let the ruleslawyer squirm over the informal tone! :p

Cheers, LT.

I'll have to see how "roll a 10" saves (and durations based on those saves) work. I'm not overly warm to them, ATM, but I could see where they would work well enough.

Honestly, a lot of us were skeptical when this rule was added. We really didn't think it would work.

Then we played it, and were amazed at how well it worked.

Now the trick is making sure people don't get too many bonuses to them, thus defeating the purpose!

I don't like the reach change. It makes no sense. Yeah you can argue that a 10 ft. long spear is not suitable for opportunity attacks but what about large monsters?
To me this is change is dumbing down.
No, this change is so ketchup.

Now now, it's not THAT tricky. :) Just tell your designers and freelancers to never ever create a new feat, power or item (beyond what's on the PHB) that provides new bonuses to saving throws. If they do, they get the hose.

I was a bit skeptical of the idea at first, but once I thought about and came to the conclusion that's in my earlier post, I liked it.

Again, I'm a *little* disappointed it's so similar to 3e. There are still standard, move and swift actions (though the standard/move->swift is a good addition), five foot steps, AoOs, touch armor class and so forth. But the changes all seem good, interesting, or both.

The language of the document had me frothing at the mouth in a nerd rage coma, but I think I'm better now.

In light of this totally ridiculous reaction to a primer, I think Voss has crossed the line to become the new Razz.

Sorry. I didn't realize the entire audience was 12 and completely unfamiliar with RPGs. The egregious use of air quotes and 'let us pause while we explain the obvious to you' is pretty sad.

Those aren't "air quotes", they're just... quotes.

Its even worse for 'standard' reach creatures like giants. Apparently their arms atrophy when it isn't their turn...

Did you just quote the word "standard"? Oooh, that makes me so angry!!

Don't fix the things that aren't broke (or are only slightly broken)
