Quickstart rules from D&DExp

I see a couple people in this thread are being snarky, insulting jerks.

STOP IT!

During D&D Experience, and in the period of time afterwards when there's lots of news and speculation flying, we expect there's going to be a lot of folks stooping to such depths. The moderation staff is going to have precious little patience for it.

So, let me make this clear - if you are being mean, you are not being clever, funny, or somehow scoring points and "winning". Be respectful, or you will find yourself on the fast road to a vacation. Do not expect further warnings.

Hrm. . . Well. . .

I think I officially don't like it.

I was trying to keep an open mind and will likely pick up at least the new PHB at some point, but it really doesn't seem for me or for my group. . . Though I might grab some stuff that does appeal to me for use in my house-ruled 3.x game. (We already have a rule we call 'second wind' but it is only after combat is over, required 10 minutes of rest and gives you a small percentage of your hit points back).

It might be fun to play some one-shots with it though.

But who knows, I could play it or read the book and change my mind. It just doesn't seem likely to me right now.

This is exactly how I feel.

I printed out the What You Need to Know about Dungeons and Dragons sheet and read it on the subway on the way home. I crossed out the parts that I didnt like and drew a :) next to the parts that I do like or plan to use and put a :| next to the parts that didnt bother me that much.

8 things got crossed out.
2 things got the :)
3 things got the :|

This is pretty much when I realized that I might play a pick up game if someone else wants to run, but the chances are of me making 4E my default system are not good. I'm primarily anti-4E by default because of the amount of money I have wrapped up in 3 -3.5 stuff. Also there's the fact that I view 3 -3.5 as a toolbox. I really dont think that every table should be the same or have the same EXACT rules. People play to their tastes and styles and the rules should reflect that. 4E seems like a pretty cinematic game, I fall somewhere inbetween Cinematic and Simulationist. The amount of variant 3ed systems and rules out there allow me to customize my game. I plan on cannibalizing the parts of 4E that I like for my 3.5 game, but it looks like the game as a whole is not to my tastes.
