Will Eisner 1917-2005
From my livejournal:
Will Eisner passed away on Monday.
He was a giant in te comic book industry. Not only did he coin the phrase "graphic novel," he also created The Spirit and turned down Superman. He will be missed.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at a literary conference in his honor at UMass Amherst during November of 1998. And worked on some of his books during my time at Kitchen Sink Press. One of my greatest memories is disussing the future of comics with Will and Scott McCloud.
I can say that he was a very kind man with an excellent sense of humor. He also had a toughness to him that I'm sure went a long way towards his prolific creativity. He's been creating stories from the Golden Age of comics right up to today.
Good-bye Uncle Will. And thank you.
Thanks for listening guys.
