• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

R1: Hired Hands (nimisgod judging)

OOC: Valan, go ahead -- use that gift of gab.

Sure, I'll take a stab at recognizing that arrow shaft. My Knowledge(Local) untrained mod would be +2, or maybe Bardic Knowledge at +3. I'll let the DM make the call (and the roll.)

(I haven't forgotten about Dak... maybe we'll get to him if he's still hanging around once we're finished in here.)

Cheers,
Roger

A half a moment before it becomes akward, Valan thrusts his hand out to shake "Valan! Valan Ceth. These men and I are local gaurdians, seeking to put a stop to these damaging bandit attacks. I believe you've had some attacks close to home?"

Mr. Travers accepts Valan's handshake firmly, "Ah, yes, the bandit attacks. There was one just West of here, and of course Horton mentioned the missing livestock. A group of my workers came upon an abandoned campsite a few days ago, but whether or not it belonged to the bandits or some wandering adventurers or hunters we couldn't tell."

Mr. Travers motions for Valan to sit down before occupying a chair himself. "If you're guardians pursuing these bandits, perhaps you could enlighten me as to what is happening in the region."

"How much live stock went missing?"

Valan sits, taking a relaxed but determined pose.

Taking on a thoughtful expression after Traver's own question "In what respect are you refering?"

A scowl briefly crosses Dustin's face, "So far I've lost a dozen head of cattle and half that many sheep." He seems to regain his composure quickly. You sense this is a man who's not used to not being in control of a situation. "What can you tell me about these bandits? I haven't seen or heard anything out of Ravensdale, and the one guard patrol that's been by from Allimon wouldn't tell me anything. Claimed they were 'under orders not to divulge any information regarding their investigation'. Horsecrap, I say. Those yahoos probably didn't know much anyway and were just afraid to admit as much."

Valan weighs his response carefully and after a pause, "Yes we received a response much like that from allimon and we're heading towards Rivensdale, to see what we can find. Talking to the locals, to see what we can find out." Valan looks to the others "That quite alot of missing cattle, how many people do you think that that would feed in this time frame"

Mr. Travers looks slightly puzzled by the question, "Well, that much meat, properly butchered, could feed a small family for several months."

ooc: Ragnikyr can tell nothing from the broken bolts.

"That much game, surely it would have left some trail. Do you have an idea for a direction they might have been taken? Are there any local trackers that might be able to help?"

"No, I have no trackers in my employ. Not that it would do any good, trying to track a specific animal over land that's traversed by over a hundred head of cattle a week. We didn't discover the missing stock immediately, sirs, but only when we do our biweekly headcount. So the animals were taken sometime over the last two weeks." Travers hopes this helps clear up any misunderstanding. He continues, "I can't show you where the animals disappeared, but I can show you the campsite we found. Maybe you could learn something there that we missed. 'Course, it's a few hours away. No way you could make it there and back before nightfall." Looking out the window, you can tell that the Sun has passed its zenith.

"I'd be happy to hunker down for the evening and get a fresh start on the morrow. If we can beg a bit of floor in the barn from you."
