R1: Hired Hands (nimisgod judging)

Tor will not be changing his action unless something happens or until it becomes time to change shifts. (Hopefully saying that in advance will help expedite things.)

"Nothing like a good day's work for a good day's pay," says Ragnikyr, as he steps up to the wagon and helps the other workers unload it. "Oof! Y'all feeding these cows lead ingots?"

A couple of the workers give Ragnikyr a look that seems to say who is this fool?. Finally one of them speaks up. "Nah, not lead. Mr. Lorne does know his grains, though. His feed mix is one o' the best 'round these parts."

The worker heaves another sack over his shoulder with seeming ease, "Yup, this's ma third year with Mr. Travers."

After he stacks the sack, he takes a long look at Ragnikyr and Gideon. "So, is it true then? Are ya really adventurers bound fer Ravensdale?"

"Ayup, that's more-or-less right. We're looking for the bandits that are attacking folks on that part of the road." Ragnikyr takes a not-at-all-deserved break.

"There's a pretty substantial reward for bringing them in, and we've got a pretty darn good idea now of where they are and how they're operating. Of course," Ragnikyr says, "you can't be too-well prepared. Now I know y'all are honest, upright men. Still, even a good man might hear a rumour, or fall in, for a time, with the wrong sort of people. I'd pay, and pay well, to hear anything any of y'all might know about these bandit attacks. Complete discretion and no questions asked, of course."

"So if any of you are interested in making a month's wages for telling me about a gang who would sooner slit your throat than lift a finger to help you, we'll be in the guest rooms all night. If not, have yourselves a nice day."

Ragnikyr smiles magnanimously and walks back towards his room.

Gideon and Ragnikyr return to their room, having gained nothing from their little foray. A short time later, Kerrz returns as well.

"Whatever this place is, they sure know how to take care of an animal. BusterJack seems to really enjoy the stable, and the feed they gave 'im. So, what'd you two find out?"

"Most of the workers here seems happy enough with their alloted tasks. They don't seem like the sort to resort to banditry in their off-hours. Still," says Ragnikyr, "one of the might happen to know something. I offered a reward for information on the bandits. So we might yet learn something. Or they might come and try to murder us as we sleep. But, if so, they were probably planning to do so anyway."

"Tavers has shown us exemplary hospitality and kindness in his assistance, and I thought it a poor way of repaying him to abuse or threaten his employees. We'll see if anything comes of it. If not, we're no worse off for our troubles."

Ragnikyr yawns. "My, my. All that lifting and talking has tuckered me right out. I think I'll turn in early and try to get some sleep. If you want to set up a watch rotation or some similar thing, wake me when you want me to take over."
