Tor examines the document carefully, trying to guess from the size of the smudges how many letters are missing in each spot.

"Anyone know of any magic that can restore a ruined document?"

"I know a simple cantrip for repairing and mending. Let me see if it will work on this." Gideon holds out his hand for the piece of parchment.

 

[Patlin]

Tor hands it over.

 

[Dungannon]

Gideon takes the note and recites the incantation to mend it. A rich glow infuses the paper. When it dissipates, the paper is free of tears and creases. Unfortunately, the writing is still illegible.

Gideon stares at the restored paper for a moment and then gives out a derisive snort. "Well, it was worth a shot." He then hands the paper back to Tor.

"It looks like the only legible words are: service or serving, wagons or dragons, gold, remember, and Ravensdale. Ragnykir, can you make anything of this?"

 

[Roger]

"Your guesses are as good as mine, Gideon. It certainly seems to imply that we're dealing with humans or humanoids, and possibly a group that's receiving its orders from some third party."

"I think we've seen all there is to see here. I'd be happy to head off towards the main road and continue onwards. I imagine our guides could return with these horses that were so graciously lent."

I think we've seen all there is to see here. I'd be happy to head off towards the main road and continue onwards. I imagine our guides could return with these horses that were so graciously lent.

Kerrz speaks up, "Surely we could at least return the mounts to the barn for them. It wouldn't take that much time."

 

[Patlin]

"Indeed. One should always try to be a good guest, especially considering how gracious a host Mr. Travers was to us."

If he can without too much risk of being overheard, Tor tells the others the following:

[sblock]"Be cautious though. It seemed like Dak was in the barn with a giant rat just before we left. Can't see what he'd have to say to an ordinary rat. I've heard tails of men that turn into animals, and it will be bad enough to meet one such. If the disease has spread throughout the farm, it could be a dangerous place indeed. Better just in case that we take care to seem ignorant of any facts they might wish to keep hidden."[/sblock]

 

[Roger]

"My hope was that, since the bandits apparently camped here and then launched their ambushes on the main road, we might gain some further clues by broadly retracing their steps, is all. But I've nothing against returning the horses, either."

Gideon nods at Tor's comments and then says, "I also think that we should return the horses."
