R1: Hired Hands (nimisgod judging)

ooc: How far away from the barn is Tor going to settle down?

Tor wants to be able to see both the north and south sides of the barn relatively well. I think 120' to the east might accomplish that, let me know if he must go further away.

"I hope he's okay," Ragnikyr whispers. "If we hear the sounds of battle, or if we find ourselves waiting much longer, it might be worthwhile to go after him. I just don't want to make any noise and ruin any advantage he might have gained -- I wouldn't enjoy incurring Tor's wrath, I wager."

"Damnit." Gideon mutters under his breath. He furrows his brow in thought for a moment, then speaks up. "We'll wait here for another half-hour or so. If he isn't back by then, we'll follow his trail slowly, and as quietly as we can."

Gideon dismounts and tries to find some shade to wait in. If he finds some, he settles down and lets his breathing become more and more regular. He closes his eyes and simply listens to his surroundings. He seems to be sitting in peace, his usual angry sneer now only a slight curl of his lip.

Tor settles down for some observation, thankful that the ranchhands have the livestock grazing elsewhere. It's early afternoon so there's a fair amount of activity going on. Tor can make out Horton barking orders at some workers in the barn, he sees Cinder make a couple of trips from the bunkhouse to the shed next door, but no sign of Dak. After about a half hour, Tor hears a commotion to the south. In short order, a handful of ranchhands appears on horseback, driving in a flock of sheep toward the southeastern pen. Horton starts yelling even louder, and finally he sees Dak emerge from the bunkhouse and hustle to the pen to assist the others in getting the sheep inside.

Dak spends the next hour or so helping get the sheep in the pen, making sure the pen is secure, filling the feed & water troughs, and other menial work. Others are inside the pen, checking the animals. This appears to be one of the biweekly headcounts Mr. Travers mentioned.

ooc: Tor, how long are you going to observe? And how long are the rest of you going to wait for Tor to return?

Tor will observe till dusk, if nothing interesting happens before then. Interesting would include, but not be limited to, seeing the giant rat thing, seeing Dak sneak off on his own, or any significant risk of discovery. If the others seem to be looking for him, he'll try to signal to them when no one else can see.
