"No key."

Tor looks over the grate carefully, checking whether or not the chains actually hold it closed. It occurs to him someone might want the sewers to only *look* locked up. He'll also check to see how heavy the chain is, as well as the grate.

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Fimble examines the grate closer, looking to see if it's easily opened or if he'll need some kind of key to get in.

OOC:Sorry, I was still on page 16.

The group looks around and satisfies themselves that they aren't being observed from any of the nearby buildings.

Examination of the entrance reveals the metal grate is secured to the top of the cistern by a pair of criss-crossed chains, each one secured to a ring in the side of the stone by a simple looking padlock. There are signs of rust, but everything looks to still be structurally sound.

ooc: you could try to pick the locks, but I don't think any of you are trained for that, or you could try to break the locks and/or chains.

"If anyone has a hammer, I'd be happy to open it."

Holding a slashing or bludgeoning weapon in both hands, Tor can power attack the lock for weapon damage +12 per hit.

Babette

"Sorry, no hammer here. I wonder though, this entrance doesn't look like its been used in a while. It might be worthwhile to check the other entrances and see if any have been disturbed recently."

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Fimble considers Babette's comment. "Hmm... True. Although... this may be overanalyzing things, but mightn't it be better for us to 'sneak in the back'? The main entrance will probably be watched. This one, if it seems out of use, might actually be better than the one the criminals use. Also, there's no guarantee that they use one of the main entrances in and out of the sewer. I think it's very likely that they have multiple secret entrances." He pauses. "On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt to check. Do we even have a weapon to try and force our way into this gate? I know I don't."

Gideon looks over at Tor with a grin, "You take first shift swinging that mace. If you get tired and we still aren't through, I'll take second shift."
