R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Assuming Tor makes it to the bottom without incident, Babette will go next. She will use the rungs all the way down to the bottom. Once she gets down she'll ignite a sunrod and get clear of the ladder.

ooc: A couple quick questions on sunrods. Do they generate heat (if so, how much)? And would they be extinguished if they were dropped to the floor or gotten wet?

Tor quickly descends the rungs down to the bottom. The light here is very low, but the warrior can make out a tunnel heading off to the west. Babette, seeing Tor make it without incident, makes her way down by his side. It's starting to get a little crowded so Babette strikes a sunrod and they move into the tunnel to give the others room to descend.

ooc: From what I've read they do not generate heat nor do they go out if they get wet or dropped. Okay, who's next down the hole?

Gideon heads down next. At the bottom, he draws his blade and readies his shield, keeping an eye out in the gloom for anything that tries to attack them.

Fimble nods to Metrius and climbs down into the darkness after the others. Metrius quickly follows, closing the grate behind him. Fimble doesn't jump down the last 20 feet like Tor. When he reaches the bottom, he claps the rust off his hands and looks around the now-lit sewer, his huge gnomish nose sniffing the air.

Fimble doesn't cast light, since Babette has a sunrod. Obviously.

ooc: The tunnel is approx. 6' high and 5' wide. Right now I have the marching order as Tor, Babette, Gideon, Fimble, Metrius. Is this how you are going to proceed?

Once they have secured a way to descend into the depths (they can retrieve rope from Gideon's horse, or buy some if need be), Gideon nods to Tor, "You want first crack at it? If not, I'll take the lead."

Gideon wanted the lead. Tor will be right behind him, unless no one else feels comfortable taking rearguard.

Gideon steps forward to take the lead. While the others are falling into line, he asks, "As far as I know, we're just going to be wandering around down here until we find something odd, right?"

ooc: So the order is Gideon, Tor, Babette, Fimble, Metrius. Babette has the sunrod so the light extends 30' from her, minus the shadows from the hulking brutes in front of her. :p Giving Gideon a light source is probably a good idea.

"I think for exploring we should only have one light source. No need to waste them. But perhaps if we run into something nasty, someone could light another? I'm willing to bet that anything living down here doesn't need light like we do, so it would be a distinct disadvantage if we were half-blind."
