R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Gideon pauses, and glances back at Tor. He mouths the word "rats", and then points toward where he heard the sound. Then, he slowly starts to creep up towards the source of the noise, provided Tor follows (as he has the light source).

Fimble's eyes go wide. He motions with his hands 'big' or 'small'? He looks to the others seeing whether everybody or just Tor should follow Gideon.

Tor will cetainly follow, chain at the ready, though he considers it silly to "creep" towards an encounter while carrying a light source. Even some blind men can tell the difference between light and dark...

OOC: I was thinking more along the lines of not "running" into a trap or ambush, but yeah, it does seem sorta silly doesn't it?

Fimble looks around nervously. He follows Babette's example, drawing his silver dagger, and moving along with the others.

The party moves forward, wary now with Gideon's warning. After a few seconds Gideon sees a large mass in at the edge of his light. A few more steps brings it into better view, it's a squirming mass of rats, at least a dozen, crawling over an object on the floor. As the light from the sunrod falls on them, the majority retreat into the shadows, leaving two behind. These rats, larger by far than the others, turn toward the intruders and begin to advance, teeth bared and a gleam in their malevolent eyes.

All things considered, Babette figures it would be best to stay out of the fighters' way. They should be able to handle a couple of rats. Assuming these are normal rats. She'll keeps her eyes open for ways to help the fighters out.

ooc: Delay until Tor and Gideon have acted. Defend myself with dagger if needed, otherwise let things play out a bit and see where I can be most useful. Also, are Tor and Gideon wearing armor?

Gideon lets out something that sounds like a cross between a chuckle and a grunt and moves to slash at one of the rats, trying to leave Tor an opening to strike as well.

OOC: Gideon is, and he's got his shield and sword (his silver longsword) readied as well.

Gideon heads down next. At the bottom, he draws his blade and readies his shield, keeping an eye out in the gloom for anything that tries to attack them.
