Orman hesitates for a second at Tor's question. "Taken? No, no, nothing like that. As I said, just some vandals, probably street kids. I don't remember any mud or water, either. If I recall, there was no rain at all that week."Patlin said:

Tor decides this lead is cold and unlikely to get better with further investigation.
"Thank you for your kind assistance. We may not need to trouble you again, but if our investigation requires it, I hope we might contact you again?"
After making a polite exit, Tor suggests to the others that this place doesn't seem to follow the pattern. He still wants to explore the sewers... though "wants" may be the wrong word. More to the point, he thinks exploring the sewers is the best chance of making some progress.
"Thank you for your kind assistance. We may not need to trouble you again, but if our investigation requires it, I hope we might contact you again?"

"Thank you for your time and for showing us the scene, Orman," Metrius says as they leave. "You have been most kind. Tell me, was the window smashed, or just removed?"
After they have left he comments, "I'm less sure about the sewers. I mean, the first place looked suspicious, sure. But the other two don't really. The second house had a pipe leading to the sewer, but no means into it, and that place... well there was nothing."
What confuses me is why they're bothering. I mean, these guys are obviusly practiced - you can't remove glass like that otherwise. But to break in, and not take anything.. it just doesn't make much sense. But we're two weeks behind with this break in, the others are likely to get colder still. Perhaps we should speak to Ms. LeCroix in the morning, and see what she makes of it?"

Fimble clears his throat before speaking, "Ahem, well, Ms. LeCroix did hire us to do the investigative work, which as I understand it includes discovering and interpreting information. We could certainly report in tomorrow, but I doubt our employer has any information that would help us further, else she would've mentioned it at the start. And eh..." He coughs lightly. "This is my first real, paid job, and I'd like to do it well, no? My parents... well, I've quite a reputation to live up to, you see, and I don't want to give up so easily."
A little more confident, he continues, "So. I think you're right, our leads are getting colder. But the one connection we've found so far is the sewers, and despite my misgivings, it would be worth checking out at the very least. We could report in to Ms. LeCroix and propose our plan of action, but I personally think it's too soon to ask for assistance on a job we're being paid to do." Pause for effect.
"What time is it, anyway?" he wonders aloud, glancing at the cloudy sky. "It might not be the best day to go delving into the sewers, not with all this fresh rainwater draining through it. And night... well frankly, that scares me a bit." Fimble flashes a sheepish grin before going on, "So while we still have hours of daylight... or dim overcast light, whatever... I think we should continue on our original agenda, even if the leads are getting cold. Then we can retire for the night, talk to Ms. LeCroix in the morning, and then... go spellunking. How does that sound to everyone?"

It's a little bit later than Fimble thought. The rain and cloud cover threw his clock off a bit, so now he rethinks his suggested course of action. "Hmm... I don't expect to receive warm welcomes after sunset, especially on a day like this. We may be better off continuing in the morning or just immediately checking the sewers. I doubt the worth of these other break-ins, but I also believe we should leave no stone unturned."

Metrius nods. "Well, I know what you mean about going back to Mrs. LeCroix. I agree, I just don't see the sewers as that good a lead - it's only one site that had any evidence of anything to do with the sewers. Checking out the site that Harrold mentioned north of the city can do no harm though. I just don't know that we've really got much to go on."
Either way, I'd suggest we do that tomorrow, there's no harm missing something because of tiredness."

Would it be OK if we continue to investigate in this manner if we do so in summary mode? Something like "you visit the remaining places on the list and find...."
