Race for a Factotum

Thurbane

First Post
In an upcoming game, I was wanting to try out the Factotum class.

The game encourages "nonstandard" races, so I was trying to get away from the core races. (ECL 10, 32-point buy, above average starting gold).

I was thinking either Tiefling, or Sharakim, both of which give a bonus to Int, and are only LA +1...

Any other suggestions?

you've mentioned the sharakim, so you'd be able to check out the same publication for the underfolk. they're a pretty sweet "near-human" package and get the extra skill points that a human does, but have dark vision as well as camouflage, light sensitivity is a non-issue with a simple alchemical item from races of the dragon that'll set you back like 10gp.

i only suggest them because the factotum appears to crave teh skillz points!

I should probably mention that the campaign is fairly limited in which books it allows. Anything from core, Races of X and the Monster Manuals is OK...

While not a race, they have put stuff up for the Factotum on the Wizards website. There's a feat that gives an extra Inspiration point each time it's taken, and it increases by 1 each time. First time is 1 point, second time is 2, etc... Be a human. Burn every feat on that one. You'll seriously rock hard.

Well, Facotems care about two things from a race: adding to int, or giving more feats with which to load up on Font of Inspiration (the feat mentioned above). So, unless the race is giving you an int bonus, no reason to not be human.

If you want something more exotic than one of the various flavors of Elf, there's Fire Hobgoblin for +1 LA. It's in UA, which conveniently enough is easy to find online, like here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm#fireHobgoblins

If you can't buy off LA, of course the Fire Elves right above that are better.
