Am I so stupid that I can't see the "insult" leveled at me? Am I a sheep who purchases anything with the D&D logo on it? The insinuation of many of the grumpy complainers is that Wizards is once again "out to get us" and "care only for the money" and anyone who buys into their line of snake-oil products is a fool. I am insulted, but not by WotC!

The insult leveled at you is the same insult that would be leveled at anyone who was being overcharged for a product. It's a human insult.

However, if you choose to buy it, that doesn't make you stupid or sheep-like. It does not cast any aspersions on your intelligence, willfulness or individuality.

Sometimes I pay $1.50 for a 2-liter of Diet Coca-Cola when I could spend .60 on the generic brand. And sometimes I buy regular Coca-Cola when I know I shouldn't because it's not good for me.

I'm dangerously close to stepping into the realm of hyperbole myself here, but I just get so tired of all the baseless negativity and whining directed towards WotC.

Your post is just as whiny and negative as any other in this thread. It's full of as many grumpy complaints as the other posts here.

point of comparison

Hello,
Frankly I think it would be silly to compare this to a gaming book. I am comparing it to a graphic novel. For that, this book stacks up pretty well. If the art is as good as I am hoping, it will get a lot more use than a one time read through.
I hope it is not too much of a 4th edition preview. I got the 30 year book for a dollar a while back, and I hope this one will compliment it nicely.

YBMF of course (Your Bird May Fly).

Here's the thing. "Overcharged" is 100% subjective.

Also, what does "human insult" mean?

How many people would have bought the bullet-point version of "Deathly Hallows" plus Rowling's commentary back in January?

I would have, because all I cared about was what happened, not the long drawn out blah-blah-blah crap. Give me the main points so I can move on with my life.

Heck, I would have paid full price for a set-in-stone outline of the book 6 months in advance.

Some of us are just compulsive like that.

But, would you have also picked up the full version when it was released?

That was intended to be implied in the original question.

Sorry, forgot that part. Yes, I would have. I have a burning *need* to know what happens as soon as possible, then go back later and fill in the details.

That being said, I'll buy the preview books the second they're available, then buy the core books as soon as they're available.

Hell, I'll probably end up getting a leatherbound copy when that's available too. It's just how I do things.
