Races of Destiny

I'm actually incorporating some of these ideas into my campaign world. PHB elves are actually half-elves, but called elves within the world. PHB half-elves are quarter-or-less-elves, and similarly called half-elves. True elves are basically slaadi that were transformed by gods into true elves at the end of the preternatural era.

For what it's worth. :)

So what would be in it?

-Mul, from Dark Sun
-Duergar, from the core rules
-Half-giant, from XPH
-Something from Eberron?
-Savage Species?
-Half-elves

Actually by 2e they were interbred with humans, to what extent I'm not sure though.

That's not what I recall. Derro, IIRC, bred true as a race. They were initially slaves altered by magic on Oerth, with the first two such experimental slaves accidently imbued with so much power they became gods, but they aren't in any way considered even remotely close to be humans now.

I think both the shifters (half-lycanthropes) and the changelings (half doppelgangers) would qualify.

What I'm wondering though, Is why not humans.

IMO humans really get the short end of the stick in terms of racial stuff. they have no special weapons, they have no cultural traits, and they don't even have their own language. It's kinda pathetic.

Mmm, I may be thinking of some realms lore then, I'm sure Derro are mentioned as being warped and insane products of crossbreeding between dwarves and humans (not saying they don't breed true as a race (which the write up fairly clearly indicates they have and for centuries) just that they have human blood.).

I think that book on half-breeds will have me half-bored. I mean, given the current trend in books published, we will have endless pages how rules stats, feats, spells... you name it.

But you will see nothing on how the races live, what is their culture, what their cities look like.... Since they will probably be expected to adopt whatever surrounds them. Oh I am fairly confident that we will have one paragraph on each race saying such interesting information as "Half-Ogres are strong, no really strong, and half-elves, they are , well smart, real smart, and cute too, real cute".

I'd like to be proven wrong on this account, but I am very pessimistic on that subject.
