Races of Faerun and Arms and Equipment Guide are out!

What bugs me is the lack of illustrations for everything. I want every damn item illustrated in an equipment book. Some of the vehicles just had sillouettes showing their "turn" locus and pilot position. I actual pictures of what everything looks like

Agreed: I can't stand it when equipment books don't illustrate everything (or nearly everything) that they cover. On top of that, A&EG's equipment illos looked like something I could have done myself -- they reminded me of Palladium's old Weapons, Armor & Castles book, which had terrible little line drawings for the vast majority of the weapons. Compared to the spare and evocative equipment art from the PHB -- or the fantastic gear illos from Races of Faerun -- most of the A&EG art was just blah.

Having bought and skimmed through both books, I think I'll get more use out of RoF, but there's still plenty of cool stuff in the A&EG (especially the mounts, but also the huge number of magic items).

Stopped at my local WP's yesterday. There is no way I'm paying 26.95 for it.

Congrats for doing some. After reading through some positings on this board and WOTC's, I began to fear most individuals would buy any product WOTC put out no matter the content.

As to those not happy with WOTC's Arms and Equipment Guide, I'd like to suggest an alternative. Mongoose recently put out their "Ultimate Equipment Guide." This book has a vast amount of illustrations, not every item, but clearly the vast majority get some depiction. I am not finished reviewing the whole book but so far I am very happy with what I've seen.

The best thing about Races of Fearun (a very awesome book) isn't the new feats, items, spells, races, or Prcs, it's the rather detailed information about the culture & histories of different cultures & races, along with a little information on the general religion.

I think the best thing about the Realms in the immense amount of time put into designing the culture of all those different countries.

Races of Faerûn Question...

Is anyone else having problems finding the anvil of the blacksmith and the forge of smithing that are listed in the magic items section for Gold Dwarves? I've looked and looked, but I can't find their descriptions anywhere.

Picked up Races of Faerun this weekend and damn is it good!

The art may be poor, but the excellent writing more than makes up for it. After reading every race I had a cool idea for either a character or a plotline. Its got tons of good information and story ideas, well worth the price. Of course, I get 30% off, so... :)

Try Magic of Faerun.
I did, I also looked in all the rest of my 3E FR books (I have all of them) and I couldn't find the items anywhere. :( I figure the anvil probably acts like the tongs of the armorer and hammer of the weaponsmith and grants a +10 circumstance bonus to blacksmithing, but then I wondered what the heck the forge of smithing does then???
