Races You Always/Never Use

I rarely if ever play elves or dwarves. I'm also one who doesn't use many of the "non-standard" (i.e., not default before 4e) races just because I don't feel like I have much... feel for them. Most of my PCs are Gnomes, Goblins, Humans, or Half-Orcs.

I think the only one of D&D's 'core' races I've never used is the gnome. I also never use halflings, except in Dark Sun.

I'm mostly playing humans, but I also have a soft spot for the 'exotic', e.g. in Earthdawn my favorite race are the Obsidimen. In Eberron I like Changelings best. Of the more recent D&D races the Deva are quite fascinating.

I also prefer to play against stereotypes, e.g. I loved playing a charming but cowardly Ork Swordsman (in Earthdawn).

When I'm the DM I enjoy putting overlooked or rarely used races into the spotlight and discourage or 'ban' standard races.

Most of the time, I'll play a Warforged -- the backstory just appeals to me (and I also tend to play defenders, often a flavor of Warden). The Genasi also appeal to me, but I've never actually played one.

I've never wanted play a halfling. It's just... not... heroic, in my mind. I felt the same way about gnomes, until I started playing an irish illusionist/charmer. Have't quite developed it yet, but it's promising.

I too am a big fan or warforged, for their background.

I like humans, elves, dwarves, orcs and dragonborn, as staples.

I also play a deva, because it fit the character concept I came up with (servant of a dead deity looking for vengeance).

I played a shifter for a while, and while I enjoyed the character, I can't say that I got to develop the shifter part very much. Shrug.

I have not seen Shade, Satyr, Hamadryad, Svirfneblin. I think I have seen or played every other player race at least once. Perhaps this speaks to the frequency with which I play.

Races I have made characters for in ongoing games: Human, Half-elf, Pixie, Tiefling, Deva, Dwarf, Goblin, Halfling, Elf, Githzerai, Gnome, Dragonborn, Goliath, Half-orc, Genasi. Worth noting, the Pixie and Deva are backups, I have not played them yet, and the Goblin was short lived.

I think I've played 2 humans, an invoker and a warlock, maybe a third I can't recall. The only non-human race for which I have two PC's is Githzerai, a monk and a knight. Mostly happenstance, and not for any particular infatuation with the race. I like to try different races and classes, so I have a ton of variety. However I have to make a conscious effort to not pick Dwarf, Goliath, Half-orc, and Tiefling. I have one representative of each among my PC's, and it is sometimes difficult for me to avoid picking those races. I have no doubt I will succumb to the temptation at some point and play another Tiefling or Dwarf.

I would say there are no races I always/never use.

I'll add to my earlier comments that the races I have done the most extensive work on in my campaign are orcs, halflings, humans, gnomes, dwarves, half-elves (I have a "we're mostly more or less half elven in this place, with a few elves and a few humans, and we have been for generations" area in my milieu), elves and tabaxi. And relative to the length of time they have existed, warforged.
