Racial skills

In my camapign setting I give each race a couple of racial skills that are always class skills for them. The skills for each race depend on what the race is capable of excelling at like craft (stonemasonry and metalworking) and Appraise for Dwarfs. I like this better than the race actually getting a bonus to the skill, because the character is limited to a bonus to a skill that might be a cross class skill.

In my campaign, yes I do use racial skils...

RACIAL SKILLS
The racial skills listed under each race are always treated as class skills for members of that race and they may be used untrained.

Human: none

Dwarf: Appraise, Craft (armorsmithing), Craft (blacksmithing), Craft (stonemasonry), Craft (weaponsmithing), Knowledge (architecture and engineering), Knowledge (dungeoneering), Knowledge (local - dwarves), Sense Motive

Elf: Balance, Heal, Hide, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (history), Knowledge (local - elves), Knowledge (nature), Listen, Move Silently, Search, Spellcraft, Spot, Survival

Gnome: Concentration, Craft (alchemy), Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (local - gnomes), Search, Spellcraft

Half-Elf: Balance, Hide, Knowledge (local - elves), Listen, Move Silently, Search, Spot

Half-Orc: Intimidate, Survival

Halfling: Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Knowledge (local - halflings), Listen, Move Silently, Spot, Tumble

I give all the races other various bonuses as well, although it was tough balancing some races - especially elves and dwarves.

Those are cool ones that I might not have thought of. Why don't you give Half-Elves Heal?

have you considered coming up with completely new skills for racial based skills?
In another thread I was asking about flight as a skill, like swim. This could be a racial skill for winged races.

Why don't you give Half-Elves Heal?

Half-Elves receive the physical skills from their elven blood, but they are typically shunned in elven society and not taught as a full-blooded elf.

Why do humans get none?

I should have said "varies" instead of "none". Human societies are vastly different. Based on what region and people the human character hails from, fitting racial skills will be assigned by the DM. Not all regions are developed so the player can contribute much of this information. The other races are typically very similar within their race, even spread out across the world.

Here is an example of a DM-established human society...

Dust Riders (or Barren Riders) : Concentration, Handle Animal, Hide, Intimidate, Ride, Spot, Survival, Use Rope
These are a nomadic people that keep to a large region of badlands and desert.
