Racial Stat Modiifiers & Iron Heroes.

Here is a house rule I am contemplating for my next DnD game:

• Drop the racial Stat modifier
• Choose one of the following:
  • One bonus feat
  • 4 extra skill points at 1st kevel and 1 extra skill point thereafter
  • Select one of the following Iron heroes traits: Strong, Dextrous, Tough as Iron, Intelligent, Wise, or Charismatic.

Thoughts?

Not so much in favor, simply because the stat bonus and penalty are specifically intended to help define the physical/mental characteristics of a nonhuman vs. a human. Making a dwarf just as charismatic, intelligent, etc. as a human (or worse still, allowing a dwarf to select the Dexterous trait as easily/commonly as an elf) obviates this distinct quality. Now, if you have a *problem* with the average dwarf being tougher than the average human, etc., thats a different story. Just give the demihumans their standard racial abilities (minus the stat mods) and a trait.

Are you dropping only the stat bonuses or also the penalties?

So it's a little boost overall isn't it? I think it will be fine... Races will be slightly more similar to each other, but the main effect for player characters is that finally there can be Dwarf Sorcerers and Half-Orc Wizards/Sorcerers.

Yes, that would be the goal.
