Radiant Fire question

RSR

First Post
Not playing DnD for long now, and this is my first post, so maybe a bit of a dumb question!

I have a question about the Radiant Fire Feat (Races of Destiny). You get additonal spells with this feat! Summon monster III, V, VI, VIII. (fire elemental only) But arent they allready on a clerics spell list?

Thnx in advance!

Hrm, good point. I was going to point out that clerics can't cast the spell to bring creatures with an alignment opposed to their own... but elementals are neutral, and therefor not subject to that problem. Anyone else care to point out something we've missed?

Of course, it's almost worth it just to get +2 damage against evil and scorching ray ;)

I am reading the Radiant Fire feat the same way. Essentially you only get the given power, +2 insight bonus on damage rolls againast creature with the evil subtype, and Scorching Ray added to a cleric's spell list. Any cleric gets the Summon Monster spells and can summon a fire elemental. So I have to agree with you it is a poorly written feat. Now if they had added that the fire elementals are automatically augmented as if you had the Augment Summoning feat then the feat would be worth more. As it is you get all of the benefits as soon as you qualify for the feat, a 3rd level cleric of Pelor.

Too bad. I have a Radiant Servant who might have taken that if it were slightly better thought out. Maybe I'll propose some changes in the house rules forum.

To bad, I just didn't miss something! Or did someone else find out?

Also playing a radiant servant (Starting next level up). And was also thinking about taking this feat. Now I just don't know, maybe later!

I do NOT have access to the book at the moment and only barely remember the feat in question.. so what I am saying could be way off...

what are the requirements, could another combination (other than cleric) qualify? Regardless, in theory, could you stay a cleric up until the point you qualify (presumably the requirments include a divine spell caster level since that seems to be implied in this thread) perhaps then someone multiclassing to sorcerer? (or are the spells just added to divine spell lists?)

Could it be an addition to spells known (not just spell list?) in which case someone who is a favored soul (that new divine base class in one of the other books) would benefit from the added spells known?

Would give new spells to a druid or ranger or paladin since i don't think those summons are on that list...

Or some Prestige Class that gives you divine spell casting levels but a set spell list that doesn't include them?

Anyway, again, am totally guessing here since i don't have the feat info with me.

okay, then never mind any of the suggestions i made. :D I can only then guess that it would help if the DM had some customized spell list for clerics that excluded (or limited) the summon spells.... err... yeah... so... i guess we'd have to be mind readers to figure out the motivation behind it :D
