Note, if you took Improved Familiar and have something like an elemental or outsider, you can't use raise dead, reincarnate or the like.. you need limited wish, wish or true incarnate. Which actually works out for the best, its cheaper to higher an NPC to limited wish your familiar back than it is to raise dead it

Well, I believe Manual of the Planes has a spell that allows you to raise an outsider. Not having the book with me, I can't double-check, but the spell's capabilities are downright similar to raise dead (though they are 3.0). Hmm...*checks 3.5 update booklet* Ah! It's called revive outsider and the 3.5 revision changes the material components to have 5,000gp worth of diamonds.

Pfft, I'm a cheapskate, and limited wish is what, 300 xp ? (or 1500 + 7x13x10 = 2410 gp to hire someone to cast it for you). I'd expect limited wish to work similar to raise dead (ie. intact body, not killed by death effect etc), wish to be similar to resurrect and true resurect to be similar to, well, true resurrect.

Using limited wish for a raise dead (or rivive outsider) would cost you 7410 gp because you still have to pay the material costs if they are higher than 1000gp. The limit is 10,000gp for a wish.
