Rami does it?

...and you could SEE that Goodkind had no frigging idea where the story was going as he was writing it. The man famously does not use an outline to write this series - and it shows. It shows BADLY, imo.
I agree, mostly. I liked the first few books after Wizard's First Rule (not as much as WFR, though). However, he has definitely wandered into the endless series where he has to keep derailing the plot to tell a new story every book.

The complaint I've seen most often about the books is how he delves into domination fetishes. A lot of people feel that he is crossing the line and that they detract from the story. Personally, I disagree. Then again, I've read the Gor series and Goodkind is quite tame compared to later Gor.

Of course, I seriously doubt that the series will delve very closely into that area. They will likely minimize or rewrite those sections.

This is kinda what I thought as well. My initial reaction was " huh...guess we're gonna see if S&M plays well on ABC" Granted, that doesn't kick until the second (maybe third) book, but it's still gonna be interesting...

He did Hercules and Xena, I really hope it isn't 'that' quality! While being fun in their own way, it isn't the way I would like to depict the fantasy genre to the masses. More grim, less commical...
Like that Conan TV series starring Rolf Moller? Ehhhhh...

I would imagine that Disney-ABC will keep it clean enough. I look forward to seeing what Rami does and to more attempt to bring S&S shows to weekly prominence again.

Not a big fan of the series I read the first five or six books but it wasn't really to my taste. Furthermore I felt that Goodkind borrowed way too much from Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

That said, I've not read any of The Sword of the Truth books. Would you people recommend them as good fantasy literature?

I would not. The first book is pretty good, probably worth a read. But after that it's downhill.

I'm pretty sure I stopped liking the books after Goodkind's disturbingly vivid description of... ahem... barbed demon phallus.

For all the faults in the books, I'm pretty sure a competent screenwriter could produce a compelling, PG-rated series based on the storylines in the books.

Now we just have to see if it actually *happens* that way. :p

I'm pretty sure Raimi's smart enough to realize that the Hercules and Xena formula won't cut it in this day and age of Battlestar Galactica.

I wouldn't be so sure. BSG is a fine show, but it does not define how all shows must be done. Consider how many fans of BSG probably also watched and enjoyed Hercules and Xena. There is room for variety.

That being said, I don't expect this show to go the Herc/Xena route.
