Random rolls: an exersise in character building

I'm not planning on playing the character, but if I had to AND we weren't using the XP penalties for multi-classing, I'd go with a dwarf barbarian 1/ rogue X. At 4th level take the +1 CON. The logic being that the high dex will likely result in medium armor anyways and barbarians get 12 hps at 1st level, so this guy will start with a respectable 10. At 4th level, using 1/2 HD rules per level he would have 12+9-4 or 17 hps. Not enough for a front-line tank, but not too bad for a rogue. (a 14 con level 4 rogue would have 23 hps.) Also improved toughness sounds really good at 3rd level.

Most 3d6 characters (reroll those with negative stat mods and those without a 14+) will be 15-18 point characters. This guy is 27 I believe (counted the 5 as -3). Just with a really bad Con.

Why do you have them in the second edition stat orer and not the third edition stat order? it would actually make a diffence if you rolled them in order.

Gnome Fighter/Rogue

Multiclass to equal amounts to avoid xp penalty, using mighty longbows, and utilizing fighter feats to maximize archery (Weapon Focus, Specialization, Improved Critial) ability and survivability (Dodge, Mobility). The rogue skills would also help survivability (Tumble, Use Magic Device, Hide, Move Silently).

I'd play him as paranid and sickly, always complaining about the latest disease he's contracted (which for once isn't due to [size=-1]hypochondria!), also I'd max diplomacy and bluff even with the average charisma, 'cause he likes to talk his way out of situations whenever he can. I'd also give him some kind of nervous habit, probably checking his pulse constantly or touching his forehead.

Cause that is the stat order I always use. Too old I tell ya. I figured it would be cheating to change the stat order after I rolled....

If you want to be totally random, roll for a random class, and reroll only if the stats are insufficient for that class choice to be legal.

Then come up with a story that fits the class and stats - that could be a whole lot of fun, and probably more fun than picking the class in the first place.

I know that stat order all too well, and it wouldn't be cheating since it is the current way. :p
