Ranged attacks and diagonal squares

I know that with diagonal movement, the second square and every other counts as two.

Does this also apply to calculating distance to a ranged target? Every other diagonal square counting as two?

Thanks.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't. A place that's 30 feet away when you're walking is only 20 feet away if you're throwing a dagger? I doubt it.

About the only exception is a ten foot reach; a creature with 10 foot reach threatens a square two diagonals away, even though everything else in the game calls that square 15 feet away.

Which is a change I was glad to see in 3.5, as it eliminated the sneaky no-AOO way of approaching an ogre.
