I am trying to keep my homebrewed world on an equal footing power-wise with standard DnD for the sake of CRs. Can anyone give me an idea of the ranged weapon damage advacement for a fighter optimized for ranged attacks and a fighter not optimized for ranged attacks atvarious levels (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th etc)?

How about p.117, dmg.... table 4-16... typ. npc fighter, 1st through 20th.

Well, actually the tables don't do me much good, since they only list Attacks, not Damage. The accompaning samples are a little help. Basically what I am getting is that the only real down side of firearms at higher levels is the lack of multiple attacks. Anyone have other ideas?

Two words: double-barreled. :D
That and quick draw a loaded firearm in you belt and fire a third shot as well. Of course, you're likley done after that as reloading would take some time. If I remember, there is a crossbow that reloads bolts from an extradimensional space, in theory one could invent a similar device for a firearm, though I'd imagine it'd be much more complex, magically and probably mechanically as well.

I have a Ftr/Rngr/Order of the Bow PC in one of my groups and he tends to deal alot of damage and he has kept up pretty well as he goes up in levels with the big meleer in the party.
