Ranged Legerdemain

In the description of the arcane trickster's ability ranged legerdemain it says, that he can make only one ranged skill check each day. Since the arcane trickster gains exactly 3 uses/day until 10th level, I always assumed, this means, that he cannot use this ability with any particular skill (disable device, pick pocket, open lock) more than once per day, but must use up his uses/day with different skills.

Now, since the epic arcane trickster gains more uses/day of ranged legerdemain, this certainly doesn't make sense.

So, was my assumption correct (and upon becoming epic the arcane trickster can just drop this additional limitation) or was I wrong?

It is the number of "Ranged Skill Checks" per day. You don't get a separate count for each skill.

Best to wait until you really need it, such as Disable Device on something that is really tough.

Aye, can use the ranged legendermain with any of your skills in any combination according to your uses per day.

Can pick locks at range three times a day. Or once and use two disable device checks etc.

I love Arcane Tricksters...heh...probably one of my favorite Prestige Classes.

Absolutely! My favorite PrC also! I always liked the Magic-User/Thief or (nowadays) Rogue/Wizard combination and the Spellfilcher was one of my favorite kits in 2nd edition, so the Arcane Trickster quickly became my favorite in 3rd edition! :)

Ok, I guess this additional restriction just doesn't make sense then (altho it kinda sounds like that, when you read it).

I've used this ability quite successfully a few times already. Once I was out of uses and so I couldn't snatch away the evil wizard's goggles of night (it was pretty obvious that his glasses were those), too bad, that would've been fun! I used the ability to plant stones radiating silence into spellcaster's pockets or to disarm/spring nasty, nasty traps from a safe distance, for example!
