And Mouse brings us the ability for a Beastmaster ranger to ride his beast companion as a mount, as long as it is at least as big as the character, and at least Medium!
I didn't expect so many Beast-related abilities based on the fluff. The connection to their companion didn't seem to be that strong from the fluff itself.

Not that I mind beast-ranger related powers and feats, still makes me wonder. I was more expecting powers with an almost arcane flair.

(ah, that modron basher...)

I'm also expecting something more Arcane, based on the fluff. Crunch seems disconnected from crunch. Lot's of talking about Feywild, almost begging for some kind of magic... and then... "you can mount medium beasts"...

That said, it's good to see fluff in those articles and, while I'm probably not using the crunch, the fluff has inspired me to create a Ranger, if somebody is willing to DM a game for me.

The fluff emphasizes their close connection to nature and when it comes to rangers, nothing says more "nature" to me than a beast companion.

I thought it was one of the better articles in a while from Dragon. Avin if you move up here to Canada I'll DM (or sponsor me to move to Brazil, even better ;))

Kinda expensive for a game... i'd better keep DMing :)

The fluff emphasizes rangers who hang on places where Feywild bleeds into the worlds. In my head was like: Feywild > Eladrins > High Magic > some kind of feystep for non Eladrins > etc... :)

Probably should have been, but Primal wasn't a power source at the start (or at least wasn't the focus until PHB2).

When I read Riga Mortus´ sig I am wondering if it was intentional to put the solution to everything into page 42

based on fluff, i would have expected more arcane than primal. They feywild is the source of arcane, primal is connected to the world.

Hey, guys.

First off, I'm glad some of you are liking it. I wanted to give the beast rangers some love. :)

Second, I'm really not sure where anyone got the idea that the Feywild is the source of arcane magic. The default D&D setting never states or even implies such a thing. And while it's true that some fey (eladrin, gnomes) have powers that seem vaguely arcane in nature, many other fey have nothing of the sort.

My intent was to give these rangers a stronger connection to nature that seemed vaguely supernatural without quite going so far as to make anything obviously arcane or primal (or whatever). Whether or not I succeeded is, of course, up to you.
