Ranger Beast actions

Hello all, I have a question about what actions a Ranger's Beast companion can take.
I built an Elf Ranger who is focusing entirely on archery but I took the Beastmaster option for flavor. My attack powers are all archery based so I don't have any powers which allow my beast to attack. I know that we both can move at the same time but I am unclear about the attack, can I forgo my attack and allow my Wolf to use a basic attack?

Thanks for the help.

See page 41 of the Martial power for a complete list of the things you can command you beast to do, but yes, you can use your standard action to make your beast make a basic attack.

i think the beast companions are better used supporting your ranger. The +2 to attack flanking bonus is nice. Your ranger will do WAY more damage then your pet. The pets provide the attack bonus and a bit of utility for certain situations.
