Ranger PrC questions

First Post
Dear En World peoples, I am new to this site and is very happy to stumble upon to such a nice treasure in the internet.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if theres any great PrCs avaliable to rangers. Something that allows them to continue certain ranger abilities like Paladins do.

So far I've only come across PrCs that allows most other core classes like Paladins, Casters-in-general, Monks, Fighters, rogues, clerics, warlocks and even bards. But I have only seen a very few PrCs designed specifically for rangers.

Please help me out or at least point me to the right direction. Thanks!

Well, first off, it will depend on what books you have access to, but I'll give you the ones I know off the top of my head (away from my books).

Rangers can easily enter Horizon Walker. The features from that blend very nicely with the Ranger's normal class features, and the Terrain Mastery damage bonus stacks with Favored Enemy. And that Underground Mastery comes in useful, if you have no darkvision or want even better darkvision. Desert Mastery is fantastic. You can't get fatigued, and exhaustion is reduced to fatigued. If you stick with it for long enough, you can pick up the Shifting Planar Mastery, giving you a Dimension Door every 1d4 rounds. Very fun and useful, whether you pursue the Archery or Two-Weapon Fighting combat style.

Another one that's really made for Rangers is the Leviathan Hunter from Stormwrack. It requires you to hunt the really big, bad beasties, but you get major bonus damage against them, and AC bonuses by making trophies from them after you've made a kill.

Other ones that might fit well could be the Tempest or the Arcane Archer. I might chime in again if I remember any others.

Thanks, where would I find the horiozon walker?

Tempest sounds like a viable class but wouldn't a fighter make a better tempest than a ranger?

Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think those PrCs stack with rangers for certain powers like their spellcasting progression like most Paladin specific PrCs.

What combination of abilities are you hoping to find in a PrC? You almost always have to give up some base class feature to gain another, more focused one in a PrC.

The horizon walker is available in the SRD. The main thing to get is dimension door every 1d4 rounds (and then possibly Sun Style for an attack at your highest BAB after you dimension-door next to a target.)

Fighters are better at fighting, but the Tempest requires some things that might be considered weaknesses of rangers compared to fighters (such as light armor.)

I would suggest, for good rangers, the classes in BoED. They are quite nice (Stalker of Kharash improves tracking and another one gives you Pounce)

The assassin (or the "Avenger" for non-evil characters) is pretty good if your emphasis is on stealth.

Justice of Weald and Woe (Champions of Ruin) is okay for elves.

If in Eberron, the Eldeen Rangers are some 5-level ranger PrCs that grant excellent things like Divine Grace (Cha to saves) or Spell Resistance 20 or such while continuing to advance your Favored Enemies.

If you're a bow ranger, the classic build uses Deepwood Sniper (if available), Order of the Bow Initiate, and possibly Wild Plains Outrider (so your animal companion can use your max Hide and Move Silently skills, and stick with you to screen you from anyone who tries to close to melee.)

Best ranger build is to multiclass with scout and take the Swift Hunter feat from CAv. Pick swift spells from the SpC and you won't need anything else.

Where's Sun Style from? Is it a feat or something from Tome of Battle?

Pinotage

Sorry, the name is actually Sun School. It's this tactical feat. (C. War, p 112 according to a google search.) It predates ToB.

Whenever you move via a dimension door-like class ability you may make one attack at your highest BAB after. Originally it was designed for monks closing in on spellcasters, but it's quite nice when you can dimension-door every 1d4 rounds.
