Everyone keeps saying that D&D is not a simulation, so embrace it! Plus, someone running around with a bastard sword in each hand could be pretty metal.
But scimitars are high crit weapons! If you want to be metal, go with the scimitar in each hand. Sure it's a d8 instead of a d10 for damage, but it doesn't cost a feat and the crits really rock.

Bonus points if you play a drow. :D

Easy houserule - learn to say NO to your players. There is nothing wrong with the DM stating that a Bastard Sword cannot be used in the offhand, despite what the rules say. Regardless if this was an oversight on WotC's part, just rule it out.

I... I can't believe I'm saying this, but...

I like twin scimitars! Please don't kill me.
*a Ranger steps out of the shadows and kills GoodKingJayIII with a flurry of lethal slashes from his dual wielded katanas*

Of course!

This is another one of those threads that just leaves me scratching my head.
