Id say it depends on the ranger-beast relationship. They might stick together because they have to, and out of pride will not leave the other.
Or they live happily together in a treehouse and the beast comes home from his boring accountant job (wearing a tie and a white collar shirt) and the ranger made some meatloaf, all the while little cubs/kids play on the livingroom floor. Ranger starts and argument on dinner table how she is too frustrated for her husband not giving attention as much he did during dating years. Beast on the other hand is too tired of her whining and sneaks away with a plate to look at discovery channel on tv. Ranger gets annoyed for his husband looking at some young bi***es hunting around in jungles.
After a few years both are fed up of each other and they are facing a divorce. Now the beast has a bachelor condo of his own, ranger got the custody of the now teenage kids, which see their father for hunting trips every other weekend.
When at some point they are called back to action, as the year of the cultist slaying is st hand. Their adventuring contains constant pickering and rebonding.
In the end the beast is sitting on a forest clearing doing his "life is like a rabbit hole, you never know what you'll get" -thing to random passengerby animals.
