While our group has zero problem with cross-gender roleplaying, we do not change a character's sex during a game.

It just seems, well ... silly.

We've had characters change themselves into forms of the opposite sex, through polymorph and other forms of shapechanging. But it's never been forced by the GM, unless you count one instance of a character becoming stuck in an opposite sex form he changed into.

This happened only once, a dead player character was reincarnated, the player rolled a human as the results and I thought I would randomize him coming back as either male or female. The dice came up as the character becoming the opposite sex. Normally I don't do sex changes on our group.

Disguises and polymorph aside, it has happened in our group exactly once. In all my years of gaming, it is the only time I can recall something like this happening. I can't remember the exact set up, only that it was during 2E, the DM was running a published module and the player's male character was permanently changed to a female one. The player was sort of annoying, so I wondered at the time if the DM did it as some kind of punishment. If so, it didn't work, because it didn't even phase this guy. He continued to play the character in the exactly annoying way as before.

Yeah, I think it's just silly, too.

Occasionally this happens imc, but my game is full of Chaos effects and stuff.

Since 3e came out I think we've had two gender changes (to the same pc).

In my many years of gaming this might have happend in the campaigns I was in once or twice or perhaps three times, but I can't recall it happening directly to my characters. (Or if it did, I've probably forgotten.)

Now I have had odder things happen to my characters. One of my characters, a dwarf in particular was always getting into odd major changing events. (Like the time his intelligence literally doubled ... and one of the rolls was a 50/50 for plus minus meaning he could have easily turned into a vegtable.) There was one time in a pocket dimension he turned from a 4' tall dwarf to a 8' tall giant, because in that dimension dwarves were giants.

Back in the 1E days that was why you got someone else to test the magic items. :heh:

Hmm.. have seen a couple curses.. the belt once.. the players found it. (it was left among their gear as a bit of petty revenge by someone they had foiled, the player suicided his pc almost instantly: thereby ruining a huge adventure I had planed to cure him)

I got zapped once, but by the time I had been 'cured' and was a woman vice man, I was more than happy to deal with it (some of the other forms had included being a Larva, Green Slime, a centinpede, a very nasty deamon, and a few others I can't recall. Kids.. learn from this.. don't mess with raw chaos :D )

This is pretty much exactly what happened to my Wizard in our first 3e campaign. I just took it in stride. My character was already pretty much non-sexual to begin with, so he saw it as only a minor inconveinience. I always assumed that he would take care of it sometime in the future when it was easier to do so. But since he was well on his way into the Alienist PrC (Wiz5/Aln7) his sex was the least of his worries...
:heh:
