(rant) Retiring from gaming

I've been there as well. I have a job/wife/kids/grad school/church and other things that I have on the go. For me the answer was using published materials. This was a blow to me as I love homebrewing, however I just didn't have the time for it anymore. Also I switched games. Spycraft is great and is set up to be easy on the DM when preparing.

I had a split with my gaming group of about 7 years (doesn't beat your time but is probably longer than a lot of others here). Myself and the other DM were pretty close friends, for some reason my friend got it in his head that DMing was a popularity contest and that he had to run me down to the other players when I wasn't there. It was a pretty ugly time. He was telling me what a great DM I was then telling everybody else how awful I was and how good he was. Anyhow something happened in the group between this other DM and one of the players that split the group as everybody took sides (only one player managed to stay neutral and play in both groups). Anyhow the split and finding new players was perfect.

It's kinda hard to understand the situation for you as I don't know you and your post seemed a little vague. Anyhow think it over and do what you think is best for you and your wife.

I have a feeling that the vast majority of you will suggest a break, a vacation from gaming, presently we are taking one, due to the holidays, weddings and Christmas parties and such we have taken a break from gaming.

My advice? Quit.

Sorry about the question-less rant, but I needed to get this energy flowing and see if there are like minded people out there with the same feelings.

No I think you weren't looking for this at all.

After so long I am wondering if I should continue, bail out of my long time passion as a New Years pledge of trying something new or I don’t know.

This isn't like a diet, or smoking, or something, where you need to promise to stop and never start again. You seem to be approaching this as a false dichotomy - that it's all or nothing for a very long time.

Play when it feels good to do so. Don't play when it doesn't feel good. That's all. No promises. No major life decisions. The only thing you need to decide is to what you want to do right now. Later on, you can choose to do otherwise easily enough. And later on may be in a year, or a month, or two days. This is a hobby, not a lifestyle choice. Treat it only with the seriousness it deserves, and not more.

To you all thank you for your positive input, I believe that I have made my choice.

Whomever is Modding today, might as well end this thread, as I believe with PW's responds that it is shortly going to get nasty.
