Rapid Shot question

First Post
A quick query to the rules experts.

Does the Rapid Shot feat apply to thrown weapons? The text in the PH only says "ranged weapon", which tends to include anything with a range increment. This seems unbalancing if you consider a fighter with a strength bonus, more than one attack per round, Two-Handed Fighting, and a bevy of throwing daggers.

Now would this character not have to use a move-equivalent action each time he wanted to draw a new dagger? Could he not then overcome this with the Quick Draw feat?

My personal inclination is to allow rapid shot only for bows. What are other peoples' thoughts? Has there been an official word on this from WotC, either in Sage Advice or in the FAQ?

I hope this han't already been discussed to death.

Quick draw does indeed apply for thrown weapons like daggers, but not two weapon combat as you suggested. Though Ambidexterity would help for this.

[edit]Oh... and it is in the FAQ somewhere.

Or he could keep the daggers in Heward's Harversack so he could get them as free actions.

So yes a person can us rapid shot, 2-weapon fighting ect with a dagger.

Note that two weapon fighting only aspplies to melee attacks. Ambidexterity would help. So, if you use rapid shot and attack with both arms for 3 attacks, they will all be at -6.

That does not work, drawing a weapon and have it ready for use, involves more than retrieving it from your backpack.

If you throw multible daggers, darts, shuriken, whatever you are assummed to be draw the weapons all at once, meaning yes you do have to draw the weapon, but instead of drawing one, you draw the number you need. This work just like an archer who as we all know actually have to retrieve each individual arrow from his quiver.

EDIT: oh, and before you ask me, yes, that is one of the reasons ranged attacks provokes AoOs.

Another thing about the Haversack, if you put unsheathed daggers in there you are going to poke a hole in it, which will result in all of the contents being lost (see Bag of Holding). Great place to store your thowing clubs though :)

As for drawing multiple daggers as a single move-equivalent action, I don't see that happening without 2-weapon fighting (and that would only allow you to draw two at once). Get Quick Draw if you are going to be throwing with Rapid Shot.

Yes, Rapid Shot can also apply toward thrown weapons. He must have Quick Draw in order throw them all however, unlike bow and arrows.

It's a good thing thrown weapons only have 5 range increments.

The only thing Rapid Shot do not apply is ranged weapons with reload time (e.g., crossbow).

If he does not have Quick Draw, he can only throw one dagger.
