Rappan Athuk 3 - thoughts?

just saw this at the store last night and scooped it up faster than a fat-man consumes a funnel cake.

what do you all think of it? i personally love what i've read, but it is almost impossible. Orcus with 1200 hp's? even if you destroy his temples, he still has around 500 HP's.

but hey, if it was easy, it wouldn't be RA, would it?

I haven't seen it up in Canada yet, but I sure liked the first two Rappan Athuk things

1st Edition feel is right!

this one actually has some good art inside, too. the problem, as with all high level modules, is that the first thing players want to do is get the hell out of there! i got into the second one and my players thought of a clever way out their predicament - at least temporarily. it's tough getting them to stick around for all the high-level hijinx.

but the thing really does look nice. it's actually quite a bit bigger than the other two, with a book binding holding it together.

Just promise they a lot of money to go back in to RA. Or do a rescue gone terrible wrong.

Btw, I do like how they fixed to so you can fight (note I said FIGHT not WIN!) against Orcus!

well, they called in a favor from a devil they had (unwittingly) freed in an earlier adventure. they were loath to do it, but i think they saw that things would only get deadlier in RA, having already lost a valued member of the party. so, i compromised. the devil sent a proxy (a pit fiend) to deliver them out of RA, but only for a year. his power, you see, was limited because he was spiriting them away in you-know-who's "house". so now my players have a year's reprieve from the hangman, so to speak.

i'm never one to railroad. if my players can cleverly find a way to cut the ethereal bonds they carry - currently they each have cords that only they can see, which stretch back to THAT place - then i will allow them to succeed.

after all, RA is eternal. the master needs many to serve him. you can always use a place like RA.
